Can lead to the 'Certified Specialist of Spirits' Accreditation
Basic Distillation & Whiskies - the 'BROWN GOODS' Wednesday,
Distillation of fermented beverages, their history, ingredients and production techniques. Brown Goods: Production and maturation. Flavor profiles. Discussion and tasting of Scotch, Irish, Canadian, American & Asian spirits. Tasting with diluted samples*
Vodkas, Gins, etc. - the 'WHITE GOODS', + Pastis Wednesday,
Production, flavors, history and types of colorless spirits. Discussion and tasting of Vodkas, Gins and Akvavit.* Other Spirits Sources from the New World: Production methods, flvors, types & agricultural regions of New World spirits. Discussion and tasting of light and dark Rums, Cachaca, Tequila and Shochu/Soju.*
Tequilas, Mezcal, Asian Spirits, Bitters, Aguardente Wednesday,
Grape & fruit brandies - production, flavors, maturation & history. Flavored brandy. Discussion of Cognac, Armagnac, American Brandies, Eau-de-Vie, Calvados, etc.*
Brandies & Liqueurs/Cordials Wednesday,
Production, history, types of proprietary and generic brands. Tasting of principal types.
Final Spirits Certification Exam Date to be announced
* All tasting samples are cut 50% for quality evaluation
Classes are weekly, 7:15 to 9:30 PM
